Frosty

Artist's comments: Frosty was a challenge for me, as he

is a big bear - 10" tall.  I experimented with joints and

body shapes to create him. His body is crocheted in two

parts with 100% angora for paws, feet and head and face

in a fuzzy yarn. His darling clown suit is crocheted from

70% Angora/30 % wool, so is the head.  The collar is

crocheted from metallic thread, edged with gold ribbon

and the decoration is gold ribbon, too.  I crocheted along

one side in a way so that the ribbon curls very nice.

Attached to the ends, are little jingle bells.  His sleeve

edgesare fashioned with the same ribbon.  Another ribbon,

but this time, a vintage one, was used on the center

of his clown suit. Frosty's clown nose is needlefelted,

eyes are black German glass on ultra suede patches,

limbs disk/cotterpin jointed, head is disk/ball joint so it

wobbles and turns all directions, firmly stuffed and his

feet have steel shot.  His body is stuffed with rubber,

which gives him a sloppy, weighted feel.  Balloons are

crocheted from DMC perle.  Frosty did blow up almost

all of them, but he had so many to do, it made him very

tired!

Simon

Artist's comments: All my bears have child-like qualities and

I absolutely adore them! But there are some, like Simon, that

have the special something which starts to appear as the bear

takes shape, especially when they look at me with big eyes.

This one of a kind, 11" tall baby bear, is crocheted from Marion's

own pattern in a mix of three different threads.  5-way jointed,

high quality brown glass eyes, embroidered DMC thread features.

Wears vintage lace baby hat and lace collar

24.

Aster

Artist's comments 6-1/2" tall, crocheted Aster, is truly fond

of flowers and spends every spare moment, dilly-dallying

about the perennial garden, catching up on the latest gossip

from the wind, the trees. the bushes, and all her lovely

flowers friends. Crocheted from several yarns/threads,

all which were brushed for an extra soft and fuzzy look,

bright blue German glass eyes, cotton embroidered

nose, sports a colorfully cheerful and removable hat

crocheted from cotton and acrylic yarns,

Felix Fox

The fox slipped silently through the early morning mist.

Warily, he circled the pond before pausing for a long cool

drink.  Eager to begin exploring his territory, he sniffed

the air, then he ran eagerly towards the woods in search

of new adventure.  I often see foxes roaming in the fields

around my home and have wanted to make one for quite

some time.  The plush thread from which I crocheted him,

made it possible to give him a naturally wild look, using

bronze, white and black plush thread woven into my own

design.  He was then brushed and face and body were

carefully scissor trimmed. He stands 4-1/2” tall to the tip

of his ears.  "Wild” brown glass eyes serve as the perfect

choice for his foxy appearance, lightly shaded around eyes

and nose, disc-jointed head, thread jointed arms and legs,

steel shot for added weight.

Serendipity

3-1/4" tall fairy of needlework.  Perhaps you've noticed her

presence, though you didn't actually see anyone -- an

unusually difficult row of crochet or knitting stitches just

happened to come out right, even though you could have

sworn you had miscounted.  Or, the nose on the latest bear

came out just right; how did that happen?  Just a tiny sprinkling

of her fairy dust, and the frustration is forgotten, only the soothing

satisfaction remains.  Crocheted from lace-weight mohair,

soulful brown glass eyes, embroidered and shaded features,

cotter-pin and disk-jointed head, arms and legs thread jointed.

She wears finery fit for a fairy, crocheted in vibrant rainbow

shades of softest hand-dyed cotton, enhanced with tiny glass

beads.  Her pretty lhead is crowned with a hat fit for a princess,

made with rounds of colorful crochet, beads, and topped with

spectacular Czech glass button.

27.

Kau'i (pronounced. 'kah ooh ee')

Artist's comments: Kau'i measures 3" tall and her name means

"The Beauty" in Hawaiian.  Kau'is beauty comes from her happy

smile and friendly spirit!  She was inspired by the love that many

of my beary friends have of the colour Purple. Her happy spirit

reflects the love generated by a group of very special friends

who make being part of the world of Japanese bearies a joy!

Kau'i is crocheted from lavender crochet cotton with her little

feetsies made from glass pearly beads.  Her nose is a fabric

covered button glossed for a shiny, glassy look.  Kau'i has

glass eyes and is fully thread jointed.  She is filled with lots

of love and wool, is blushed and pigment shaded for loveliness

and wears a big light purple organza bow atop her big teddy head.

Michiko

Measures 2-3/4" tall, made from mohair yarn and hand dyed

thread, pink ribbon around the neck, two mini silk bows on her

head.  Face is shaded with light grey and black.  Michiko's

pattern has been totally designed by me.

32.

Elle

Artist's comments: Elle, who is almost 4" tall, is my attempt

to crochet a vintage style bear complete with bump, long

muzzle, long arms and pointy feet.  She is made from Magic

thread which I just love because it can be brushed out and

trimmed to give it a worn out look.  Elle's nose is sparsely

embroidered for that tattered, old fashioned look.  Her facial

features and claws are embroidered and shaded.  Elle is

"knitting" with vintage hemp thread.  She didn't want to tell

me what she is knitting.  She thinks it should be a surprise!

Fully disc-jointed, firmly stuffed, except parts of her body

are looser for a crumpled look.

33.

Suzikyu

Artist's comments: The name Suzikyu doesn't mean

anything in Japanese, as far as I know, and if it does,

it's purely coincidental! Suzikyu was named after her

creator, who, while given the same of Susan, has fond

memories of being called Suzie-Q as a child.   7" tall,

Suzikyu is a fashionable and trendy preteen sort of beary

beauty.  She dresses in the latest styles including mini

skirts and midriff-baring tops.  She loves her comfy little

ballet flats with the pretty flowers.  Her roomy bag can

hold all the necessities a busy little girl-bear might need.

Suzikyu was designed after the Japanese style, but with

modifications that include longer arms and legs.  She and

her clothes were crocheted from high-quality Angora mohair,

and her shoes are cotton chenille.  She has black glass eyes,

embroidered and shaded features, cotter-pin and disk-jointed

head, arms, and legs.

Soxy, the Sock Monkey

Artist's comments: You know you have it bad when you

happen to see a pair of socks and you go hmmmmmm…

Out come the scissors and you begin snipping and

ripping to get the thread.  I couldn’t resist making this

little anime style Sock Monkey. Actually, the minute I saw

those socks, she sprang into life in my mind and would

not let me rest until I transferred her from my thoughts,

to my hands.  This very impetuous little Sock Monkey,

was very eager to be born.  She stands 2-3/4” tall.

Literally made from thread that I got from unraveling

a sock.  She truly is a Sock Monkey and was a delight

to make.  Disc jointed head, thread jointed arms and

legs, wears tiny red organza bow with red rose ribbon

above her ear.  Tiny pink pearl necklace circles her

throat as her only other embellishment.  Bright red

lips have that “kiss me” look.  Large black onyx eyes

are accented with black “lashes”.

35.

Daisy

Artist's comments: I was asked to design a bear pattern

with a spring/summer theme for a magazine.  Daisy sprang

from the inspiration of fields filled with daisies and buttercups.

I remembered, how, as a child, I made flower chains, which

I wore around my head.  Daisy is 3.5" tall, made from Magic

thread, carefully brushed, clipped and softly shaded.  Fully

jointed, disk jointed head, stuffed with wool and steel shot,

embroidered facial features and claws, nose is first embroidered,

then waxed and polished for a mat shine.  Daisy's flowers

individually crocheted with DMC perle cotton.

36.

Callie

Artist's comments: I wanted to experiment with two things

when creating Callie - texture and color.  I wished to see

the effect of combining two different coloured threads while

also adding some miniature knitting to my work again.

Callie stands just under 1" tall. Crocheted from cotton threads

in terra cotta, cream, and ochre.  Sweater knit from lime green

cotton with crocheted accents of mint green.  Eyes of black

glass, 5-way string jointed, stuffed with 100% polyester.

Pitch

A micro bear of thread is born, to fit in the hollow of your hand.

His tasty little orange color beckons the sun!
My little sweetie, running round and round, in the center of my hand,
you coil up, whirling, like a captured sunbeam!
He is quite a cuddler, this little thread cub.
Let me keep your exuberant playfulness, safe and happy

and give the warmth of your colours a long time to radiate.

Sylvee

Sylvee was created from cotton, acrylic/nylon yarn and

eyelash yarn called Boa! She is 6.5" tall, fiberfill stuffed

and is thread jointed! Sylvee got her name from her silver

tones! She has two pretty pink carnation ribbon flowers

attached in front of her ears and wears a lovely wide ribbon

and wire bow around her neck!

40.

Suchi Kyuti

Artist's comments: 6-3/4" tall, Suchi Kyuti, is an outrageously

colorful little Japanese bear.  Crocheted of high quality Angora

mohair and fun, bright yarn with bits of colorful ribbon attached

all along the length of it.  All of which provides her with a melancholy

look that will pull at your heart strings! But, don't let her fool you --

it's just her way of getting attention.  She knows she's cute, just

like her name says!  Suchi has huge, hand painted yellow glass

eyes with handmade eyelids, embroidered and shaded features,

cotter-pin and disk-jointed head, arms, and legs.  As an added

feature unusual in crocheted bears, she has ultra suede paw pads

and stuffed toes.
