The Journey Beyond...
Reaching Outside the Box!
We bestow upon you, our readers, as collectors and enthusiasts,
the privilege to choose the artist you believe, has ventured beyond
where others have dared to tread, blazing trails to the next age of fine
bear art, knowing the path less traveled can become the road to follow!
You will vote for the ONE creation per category, which you believe
possesses the indefinable quality to free you and others, from earthly
ties - the piece that cries out for recognition - pulling at your heartstrings
while revealing hidden aspects of the artist who created it.
URSA is not just another name for bear or a constellation, URSA is an
acronym for the criteria, by which we ask readers to judge each entry:
Unparalleled Beauty
Rarity of Vision
Style beyond Compare
Artistic Merit & Craftsmanship

Pegasus
Artist's comments: My first Pegasus and the start of a Pegasus
series! Stands a whopping 8" tall to the tip of his ears and 9-1/2"
to the highest point of his wings. Lavish coat of white mohair
roving firmly needle felted onto a cotton fabric cloth body.
Beautifully detailed facial shading, hooves and wings sculpted
in polymer clay then black paint added to his hooves and a wee
bit of glitter for his wings. Pegasus has no thread joints unlike
most of my creations.

Momma Bear w/ Bob
Artist's comments: Momma was inspired by all the great visuals
of mother bears in the wild. Momma is about 5-1/2" tall sitting,
wire armatured for posing. Both Momma and Bob are softly felted
from natural wools with special attention given to their facial
expressions, body posture and interaction. Both have black
onyx eyes, hand applied longer topcoat, hand shaded pastel
and watercolor detailing. Cub is felted separately and permanently
attached.

Bearly Spring
Colorful twosome. Nurple and Twister are just barely awake
from their long winter nap. They spent the morning eating
fresh clover and tender leaves and decided to settle in
for a quick nap. Felted from 100% wool, they peer about
from black onyx eyes. Both have a content grin on their
faces from full tummies. Nurple's grin is a little lop-sided,
which adds to his charm. Twister's too pooped to lift up
his furry head but did manage a sweet grin for the camera.

Kitty
Artist's comments: Kitty started life from a piece of cotton
transformed from my rough sketch of a five-piece head
pattern. It was then cut out and stuffed very firmly. I had
no idea of how she would look especially with a head shaped
like that! Let alone a Cat! Well, at least I hope she resembles
a cat enough to qualify as one! But, if she doesn't I'm sure
her name will help prove her place in the animal kingdom.
Kitty was needle felted in a lovely yellowish gold Corriedale
wool and highlighted with tangerine and black Corriedale.
She is fully thread jointed and stands at just over 4" tall .

Old Man Willow
Artist's comments: Old Man Willow is #4 in my new series, Fantasy
Felts, all of which are my own original designs. Old Man Willow is
6" tall from his roots to the top of his branches. Needlefelted from
organic carded wool, which was cut, cleaned, combed, and colored
in Idaho and even purchased directly from the farmer, by me. He
peers through imported, hand blown glass eyes. His entire body
has been hand sculpted and shaded to add life-like character.

Bess, Bull Dog Puppy
Artist's comments: I was inspired to create Bess because I think
bull dogs have a very vulnerable ugly/cute look which I hoped
to capture but it was very difficult to capture her body definition -
.all those bull dog wrinkles and rolls. Bess is 3-3/4" sitting, wire
armatured for posing. Softly felted from variety of natural wools.
Special attention given to her body posture and facial expression.
Onyx black eyes have additional felted detail. Her body definition
(rolls) were felted separately and attached. Lots of hand shaded
pastel and watercolor detailing.

North American Grizzly
Like all of Bobbie's creations, this naturally realistic Grizzly
is very firmly needle felted to hold its shape and to bring out
the tiniest details. So small, it is hard to imagine: 4" long x
2.5" tall, at shoulder hump, features artist's signature style,
hand crafted metal claws and composition nose, jet black
onyx eyes.

Sabreena
Sits 2.75" high at the ear, firmly needle felted from Merino/Zephyr
blend roving making her soft as a kitten (surprise), then fluffed
slightly to make her a little fuzzy. Beautiful black German glass
eyes which sit under her lovely pink polymer clay nose making
her a Japanese Anime style siamese kitten. Detailing done strictly
by needlefelting except that for hand shading on accent areas such
as eyes and nose bridge. Jointed head can be posed however you
like! Everything else has been felted into position. Weighted in her
tummy to make her feel like she just had a big bowl of milk and
best of all - she has no claws to use on your furniture! Sabreena
can be a bit mischievious!

Cassidy Giraffe
Artist's comments: Cassidy Giraffe is a bust only and she is needle
felted in a base of Navajo Churro wool. Her spots are two colors:
the lighter ones are made of an unknown wool and the darker ones
are made from a llama friend named Strange Magic. The dark color
on the inside of her ears, nostrils, and tips of her horns is dark silver
Border Leicester. The black in her needle felted eyes are Merino.
Touch of Angelina in her eyes to bring them to life. Cassidy is 16"
tall and 13" wide from ear tip to ear tip.

Katie Koala
Artist's comments: A wonderfully exquisite wallhanging, entirely
of my own design and a new direction for me. Katie is completely
and firmly needle felted with hand painted eyes and human hair
eyelashes. The full wall hanging is 15" tall by 12" wide and is
oval shaped.

Mei Tu Panda & Cub
Artist's comments: Mei was inspired by the great mothers in nature:
cows, cats and even birds. These wild, but caring and nurturing moms
are hard at work, 24/7. Mei Tu is 5-1/2" standing, wire armatured
for gentle posing. They're softly felted from natural wools with special
attention given to their body posture, interaction and facial expressions.
Both have black onyx eyes and individually felted and applied body
markings, footpads and claws. Hand shaded pastel and water color
detailing. Cub is felted separately and permanently attached.
