Kiora

Fairy dust and magic swirl in the air.  A breeze blows by gently

tickling my ear.  A tiny voice whispers, “Tis not the wind you

feel on this warm sunny day, my name is Kiora and I am a

faerie! I am here to plant flowers and to spread their seed.

Twas the air from my wings you felt as I passed.  See this

seed? It is my last. My staff I will wave and it will be done

and then I am off to have some faerie fun!" I feel wispy softness

against my cheek as she brushes by while fairy dust and

magic suddenly burst in the sky. She grinned and fluttered

a moment or two and then was gone, no longer in view.  I was

inspired to create Kiora as I watched spring blossom into life

around my home.  I couldn’t resist making a fairy to help plant

flower seeds.  I wanted her to look a little like a flower herself,

which is why she has such wonderful colors.  Kiora stands

4-3/4” high and is made from pale green plush thread, multi

colored fun fur and shiny multi-colored metallic thread, brushed

and carefully scissor trimmed face and body.  Black onyx eyes

accented with touch of white, accessorized with blue and purple

bead headdress with matching necklace.  Her magical staff is

made from a grapevine twig highlighted with opal and gold glitter,

sealed with clear glaze and accented with green glass bead.

String jointed neck, arms and legs, steel shot added for weight.

23.

Elle

Artist's comments: Elle, who is almost 4" tall, is my attempt

to crochet a vintage style bear complete with bump, long

muzzle, long arms and pointy feet.  She is made from Magic

thread which I just love because it can be brushed out and

trimmed to give it a worn out look.  Elle's nose is sparsely

embroidered for that tattered, old fashioned look.  Her facial

features and claws are embroidered and shaded.  Elle is

"knitting" with vintage hemp thread.  She didn't want to tell

me what she is knitting.  She thinks it should be a surprise!

Fully disc-jointed, firmly stuffed, except parts of her body

are looser for a crumpled look.

Trixie

Artist's comment: Trixie was a personal challenge to see

if I could make a tiny monkey from mink. I really did have

to think outside of the box for this one but she was so much

fun to make! Beautifully handsewn from luxurious sheared

mink, designed to sit 3-1/2" tall, 5" total length, onyx eyes,

6-way jointed with cotter pins including jointed tail, arms,

Felix Fox

The fox slipped silently through the early morning mist.

Warily, he circled the pond before pausing for a long cool

drink.  Eager to begin exploring his territory, he sniffed

the air, then he ran eagerly towards the woods in search

of new adventure.  I often see foxes roaming in the fields

around my home and have wanted to make one for quite

some time.  The plush thread from which I crocheted him,

made it possible to give him a naturally wild look, using

bronze, white and black plush thread woven into my own

design.  He was then brushed and face and body were

carefully scissor trimmed. He stands 4-1/2” tall to the tip

of his ears.  "Wild” brown glass eyes serve as the perfect

choice for his foxy appearance, lightly shaded around eyes

and nose, disc-jointed head, thread jointed arms and legs,

steel shot for added weight.

Troubi

A mischievous little guy, fond of naturally tasty sweets,

his cheerfulness is like springtime days, fresh and delicious.

His red isn't the sign of anger,

rather, the drunkenness of flavoursome ripened fruits,

He stuffs himself, almost exploding

with flavoursome fruit juices and pulps!

This weakness renders him enchanting,

irrestible to love and hug to one's heart's content!

37.

Bess, Bull Dog Puppy

Artist's comments: I was inspired to create Bess because

I love bull dogs' very vulnerable ugly/cute look, and I wanted

to conquer the challenge of capturing difficult body definition

of all the wrinkles and rolls.  Bess is about 3-3/4" sitting, wire

armatured for gentle posing, softly felted from variety of natural

wools.   Special attention given to her body posture and facial

expression.  Onyx black eyes have felted detailing. Body

definition (her rolls), were felted separately and attached.

Bess has hand shaded pastel and watercolor detailing.

Lucky Ducky by Elke Block

Artist's comments: This little 2.5" tall duck evolved after Ron

and I had a picnic with his daughter, Jenny and granddaughter,

River, along a creekside on the way home from a few fun days

in the snow.  River delighted in the big ducks and their baby

ducklings.  With Easter coming up, I felt inspired to make

Lucky Ducky, the baby duckling!  Hand created from premium

Schulte mohair and featuring a jointed head. This first one was

joined by others in white and beige, which I hid hid for Easter.

Later, I will reproduce through Edinburgh's Incubator.
