The Wandering Roo

Artist's comments: Roo awakens one morning to the sun rising

over Aires Rock and decides to set out and explore the new

territory.  Donning his kerchief and with his matching Prindle

stick flung over his shoulder, he sets off on his new adventure

into the wilds of Australia.  Can you hear him whistling a little

tune as he sets off on his journey? Standing 10 .5" tall, made

of light curly beige mohair, dark brown suede footpads, needle

sculpted and scissor-trimmed features, German glass eyes,

hand painted highlights on face and body, stuffed with polyfill

and steel pellets for added weight.

24.

Midnight Pegasus

Artist's comments: Pegusus-themed creations are normally

white in colour.  I wanted to go the opposite direction, especially

since I previously created a white Pegasus.  Midnight is all the

colours of midnight with hues of red-black blue -black and golds.

All the colours were hand dyed Merino and Mohair wools. His

hooves and unicorn horn are made from polymer clay.  Midnight's

Magnificent wings are Polymer Clay and accented with 18 carot

gold leaf pen.  He stands a whopping 11" to the tip of his wings.

Barthomew B. Bailey Bunny
Artist's comments: My inspirations always come from nature

and the animals of our everyday life.  I also imagine a story

in my mind for each creation as I develop it.  Barthomew's

point of interest in his story, is that while visiting his Uncle

at Eggdale Farm, he met and fell in love with, a certain Heather

Jane Eggles of Eggville.  Sadly, they are currently separated
and only have photos to remember their wistful trysts, deep

in the meadow of Eggdale Farm.  Barthomew is 13" tall and

features grays and blacks airbrushed into his imported German

and Belgian plush with detailed "scissor sculpting" as well as

needle sculpting on his face, paws and feet.  Specially jointed

with five joints including double-jointed neck, which combined

with his curved arms and paws make him fabulous to pose.

He wears only a white felt collar and brightly woven bowtie.
Lively, electric blue eyes are hand painted and accented by
eyeliner and airbrushed eye shadow.  His nose is covered

leather, extra long lop ears of Belgian plush and velour,

whiskers are horse hair.

hand painted nose.  Paws sculpted to show off her beautiful

fur's two tone color. The backs of her hHandmade wings

have blue flower shaped glass beads with freshwater pearls.

Wing feathers highlighted with gold flecks for a glimmering

effect.  A white and blue flowered halo actually lights up and

is accented with silver bells.  Handmade rose Quartz crystal/

Widget, Penguin Chick

Artist's comments: Like Serena, the inpiration for Widget,

also came from the movie, March of the Penguins inspired

me to design something so dramatically different than a bear.

Tiny 6” baby penguin, has become separated from his Mum

and the world is a scary place for this little guy.  Made from

soft fuzzy, long grey mohair fabric accented with short pile

black and white for his head.  Sports black ultra suede beak

and feet, which are machine stitched to represent toes.  Black

glass eyes set into his head, cotter pin jointed neck and wings.

You will have to excuse him as he shuffles off in search of his

Mum! The March of the Penguins inspired the artist to design

something so different from a bear.

Lillylop

Artist's comments: Lillylop is one of only a handful of bunnies

ever made at the Hucklebeary Patch and she is the FIRST

bunny I've made in her size! Sweeter than honey, she's full

personality,  She's so sweet in fact, I hope she doesn't give

you a toothache.  Lillylop is a larger bear friend, measuring

10" tall, made from a very luscious imported mohair, silk,

Alpaca Blend fur, distressed in subtle antique rose color

with extensive shading for expressiveness.  Artist's signature

32.

Lohi, Opal Gemstone Bear

Artist's comments: Opal is reputed to bestow joy in our

world and strengthens the will to live.  It makes us light-

hearted, seductive, unconventional and optimistic.  Lohi

certainly possesses those traits because he is definitely

a laid-back, happy boy with a cheeky glint in his eyes!

This is the first bear on which, I experimented with graduated

dye effects (inspired by my stay in the Maldives last year).

32cm/12 & ½ “ tall, Lohi was named after the beautiful island

of Lohifushi in the Maldives.  Hand-dyed German mohair,

matches stunning vista seen throughout the Maldives.

Pure white ultra suede paw pads reflect the coral sands,

graduating through the yellow, aquas and blues slowly

deepening in hue, like the sea, when viewed from the shore.

Hand-painted German glass sparkling, pearlescent eyes

catch the light, just like reflections off the sea.  Silver and

white perle embroidered nose and mouth, stunning sterling

silver and opal starfish pendant.   Real piece of opal and

Lohi coral forms his heart, inside his body.  Filled with

steel shot for stability, so he doesn’t just float away!

34.

Verna, First Signs of Spring

Verna is having her first encounter with a butterfly. She is made

from mohair which has been tea dyed to give a gentle, aged look.

Her face is completely needle felted out of wool felt with alpaca

accented head band and flower.  Coordinating wool and alpaca

needle felted paw pads, stands about 10" tall, wobble jointed

head adds to her sweet, time worn expression.  The flower in her

hair, must have attracted her needle felted butterfly friend. Her

curious expression makes her look as if she's saying, "What

kind of bear are you?"

Crocus

Artist's comments: I rarely create bears as small as this,

and because I always dress my bears in antique clothing,

I decided to give myself the challenge of creating a bear

with no clothes! I have to admit it was a struggle! I never

feel a bear is complete until dressed, and desparately

wanted to find a little antique dress for her so I could feel

the birthing process was complete! The time of year, Spring,

that this competition is held, inspired me as to the colour

mohair I would use to create her.   I chose a hand dyed

mohair, the colour of which reminds me of the beautiful

flower, crocus, which always blooms in early Spring....

hence her name! Suedette paw pads, 7" tall, glass eyes,

cotter pin joints, filled with polyester/cotton filling and

plastic pellets.

Kingston Bears

39.

Iris

11-1/2 tall, Schulte mohair bear in colors selected to enhance

her namesake, the lovely iris.  Her beautiful flower is used

to create a headpiece that accentuates her purple eyelashes

veins of an Iris. She holds an iris bud in her hand.  Her outfit

is completed with glass leaf beads from France.  Iris stands

on her own, delighted to be a part of a bear flower garden.
