Kashmir, Bichon Frise

Artist's comments: The Bichon Frise is a small, sturdy, white

powder puff of a dog whose merry temperament is evidenced

by his plumed tail carried jauntily over his back and dark-eyed

inquisitive expression.  The exact origins of this vivacious and

affectionate breed are unknown, but I have always found them

quite capivating.  By the 14th Century, sailors had introduced

the Bichon Frise to the island of Tenerife in the Mediterranean

region, and by the 15th Century, it was a royal favorite.  The

ultimate companion dog, this breed is also used to herd sheep

in Norway.  My tribute to this wonderful little dog is personified

in my little Kashmir.  Kashmir is 10" tall sitting on her haunches.

Her coat is dense Schulte mohair brushed and feathered to resemble

the coat of the real Bichon Frise. Her eyes are black German glass

with hand painted halos around the eyes which gives her that inquiring,

dark-eyed, alert expression so typical of this breed.  Kashmir wears

her own faux choke chain collar and engraved name tag.

Gou Mang, Panda Girl

Artist's comments: Gou Mang is the name of the Chinese

Messenger God who brings Spring and happiness.  I wanted

to design a little bear that fit that name and also epitomized

the season.  This darling little, 8.25” tall, Panda girl was

the result of that wish! Made from very luscious, imported

mohair, silk, alpaca blend fur in hand dyed bone and violet

colors.  Completely designed and hand sewn and by artist,

in her own center seam design. armatured arms for added

flexibility and posing, 5-way disc jointed, wobble jointed

neck, hand sculpted nose, imported hand blown glass eyes,

bone colored ultra suede paw pads, gently polyfil stuffed,

weighted for hefty feeling, features shaded for character,

matching, silk ribbon bows on her head.

Puff by Elke Block

Artist's comments: This puppy evolved from my desire to create

a collectible dog that would look realistic enough to fool people

on April's Fool's day! After I made him, I took him shopping with

me to see how people would react to him in a food store or restaurant.

He brought about a lot of smiles and comments.  9" high and 15"

long including his tail, glass eyes, made of 1-1/2" pile Schulte

mohair, fully jointed including his tail, for full posing.  Posed on

small chinchilla blanket.

47.

Thora, Himalayan Kitten
Artist's comments: Made with extra love in memory of Beth

Senecal's beloved Thor who was always a source of comfort

and love.  Fully jointed, 9" tall, Himalayan kitten created in

various tones of alpaca fur, dark brown wool felt ears, wobble

neck for tilting and posing, face and body carefully scissor-

trimmed to create her realistic silhouette, head partially

plucked around muzzle and under eyes to further define her

shapely, sculpted face.  Needle sculpting gives her a distinct

feline personality.  Notice her deeply set eyes and well-defined

mouth and muzzle. Dark nose and mouth are embroidered

with tatting thread and airbrushed as is her whole face and

body.  Fabric piecing and airbrushing create the dark Himalayan

"points".  Thora's beautiful glass eyes are hand painted in layers

to create sparkling mixture of blues and are accented with

ultra-suede eyelids with dark eyeliner.

Barnum, the Clown

Artist's comments: Barnum was inspired from some fabric

and the little elephant on wheels that I found.  He is 14" high,

without his hat, made from long curly  golden mohair backed

with dark brown, cashmere velvet sculpted paws that match

his muzzle, filled with polyester fibre and has pellets in his tummy.

53.

Spike
Artist's comments: Spike, standing 14" tall, is one of those

bears that literally jump off the piece of fabric.  While fabric

shopping one day, we came across this wonderful spiked

piece of synthetic...and with but a moment's hesitation...

the name SPIKE came to mind and shortly thereafter...

he was born! Most fabrics inspire us but this one BEGGED

to be created. As his fabric had SUCH character...we had

to give him extreme proportions from his HONKING big

feet with pulled toes, to his huge hands, all the way up to his

thread sculpteded face.  Drybrushed details accent his eyes.
Keeping in tradition with his extreme proportions, he needed

a nose with attitude, so we sculpted one from polymer clay

to match his personality.

Deter, the Monkey
Artist's comments: Deter is very difficult to measure
as you

can probably see in the photos,  He can't hold still for even

a minute! My best guess is 13.5" tall. He is fully wired, arms,

legs and tail, and very flexible as a good monkey, should be.

Made from short dense varigated Alpaca with needle felted

face, hands and feet.  Black onyx beads eyes.
