The Journey Beyond...

Reaching Outside the Box!

We bestow upon you, our readers, as collectors and enthusiasts,

where others have dared to tread, blazing trails to the next age of fine

bear art, knowing the path less traveled can become the road to follow!

You will vote for the ONE creation per category, which you believe

possesses the indefinable quality to free you and others, from earthly

ties - the piece that cries out for recognition - pulling at your heartstrings

while revealing hidden aspects of the artist who created it.

Edith LaPif

Artist's comments: Edith La Pif is my homage to one of my

favorite singers, Edith Piaf! My Edith is a happy little bear,

who loves to sing and dance! This intriguing creature is an

8” tall, OOAK (one-of-a-kind) bear of thread.   Crocheted

from many quality threads and fibers, her skirt alone has

over four different kind of fibers in it! 5-way jointed so

she can pose to her heart's content.  Her lovely hat is

fashioned over a wire armature and is removable.  Sparkling

glass eyes and carefully hand embroidered nose are wonderfully

ezquisite finishing touches!

Snooky, the Snowshoe Kitten

Snooky is just a baby but he wanted to keep up with the

bigger cats. He's kind of afraid of snow and these funny

paw snow shoes are not giving him much confidence!

Length is 8", the size of a 4 week old kitten. Made of

imported Belgium plush, features are needle sculpted

and hand colored, hand painted eyes set in handmade

eye sockets, mohair ear liners, jointed head, legs softly

armatured, wears a kitten sweater with gold colored

snowflake design. Also, dons realistic snowshoes with

leather thongs.

Prima Donna

9.5" tall Prima Donna is made with short straight, regular

white mohair.  Fully wired, needfelted face, onyx bead eyes,

fimo clay nose. Her beautiful costume is all hand beaded,

bejeweled with rhinestones and set off with satin ballet

slippers and a beaded silk ribbon head piece.  This agile

young lady bear is fully poseable and free standing thanks

to the steel shot weights in her delicate feet.

24.

Ollie Bear

6-1/2" tall, Little Ollie was crocheted from a beautifully

luminescent plush yarn.  He has sparkling blue glass eyes

and subltle shading to add character to his happy little face!

Cotterpin/disk jointed head, and thread jointed arms and legs.

Ollie Bear wears a colorful sweater crocheted from gorgeous,

multi-colored, silky ribbon yarn, so beautiful that his mommy

couldn't resist making a big, loopy bow on the bottom of his

sweater (in a very masculine way, of course!).  Ollie's one

aim in life is to make everyone who sees him just as happy

and contented as he is!

Isn`t She Lovely

Artist's comments: As I finished this little bear, the Stevie

Wonder song, "Isn`t she lovely?",  popped in my mind and

that was the perfect name for this little beauty!  She is 6"

tall, crocheted from wool mix thread, fully disk jointed, wired

arms for posing, stuffed with wool, steelshot and lots of love.

Her hat and sweater are crocheted from vintage hemp thread

decorated with embroidered flowers.  "Isn`t she lovely" is

nominated for Teddy Bear and Friend's TOBY award.

Ting-a-Ling, The Take Out Genie

Artist's comments: Hot and Sour Soup, Sesame Chicken, Egg

Roll? Your wish is his command.  Opening up a box of Twin Cubs

Take Out can result in the release of the famous Take Out Genie,

Ting-a-Ling. This magical fellow is about 10" tall, including his

handmade Take Out box.  He is needle felted of cream wool and

luxurious chocolate alpaca roving.   Created in Amigurumi/Japanese

Style, he is suitably dressed in a beautiful chocolate oriental print

accented with appropriate hat made out of wool felt. Your wish is his

command!

Jingles, the Elf Bear

Artist's comments: I wanted a "dressed" bear without covering

up the mohair.  When I saw this green mohair with gold strands,

I knew I had to make this elf.  He's the first elf I've made, but

won't be the last.   His hat is the first I've tried... and adding

the green mohair to the hat was a little tricky for me.  10.5"

tall, created from two sumptuous colors of mohair, "cashmere"

upholstery fabric paw pads, glass eyes, embroidered nose, bolt

and locknut joints.  Hat and suspenders are striped fabric with

gold strands.

Little Polly

Artist's comments: I wanted to create a very feminine little Golly

as well as what was probably the first Golly ballet dancer! 10” tall,

freestanding, 5-way jointed, black cotton fabric, safety eyes, polyester

and wool stuffing, wearing removable knicker, pink and white satin tutu

trimmed with tulle and rosebuds. Limited Edition of 500 pieces.

Groovy Golly

Artist's comments: This large 12" tall Golly's body is made

of polyester from my traditional flat style, two-piece center

seam Golly pattern.  His 3-dimensional head is attached

with plastic safety joint, so he can be positioned in different

angles.  Groovy's happy red smile is painted on with red

acrylic paint.  His suit is sewn out of felt and cotton, slacks

are blue and white checked fabric, yellow felt coat  opens

in front, and closes with a snap button.  Under his coat, is

a light blue vest and white shirt, bow tie is made from bright

pink satin.  His boots are made from dark blue felt, Really

Groovy Golly is also weearing a pair of super cool shades!

Sized for a doll's head, these round sun glasses are made

of metal, and have plastic lens.  Very psychedelic!

Miss Adeline

Artist's comments: This beauty goes by the name of Miss Adeline.

She is named after a dear elderly lady friend of mine.  Adeline

stands 14” tall and her attire is completely vintage from her lined

velveteen doll coat to her spectacular hat, red purse and brooch.

She is made of soft curls of caramel shaded mohair, German glass

eyes, felt paw pads, fully jointed, stuffed with poly-fil, plastic pellets

and zinc plated BB’s.  Adeline is one-of-a-kind.
