PRIZED  POSSESSIONS

I was relaxing at home reading the local newspaper when I saw an ad that interested me.

The ad read "Do you have junk?

We buy junk.

Call 1-800-GET CASH."

I thought about this for a moment, then I said to myself, "I have so-called junk that I store in my old trunk!"

So I cut out the ad from the newspaper to call the phone number later.

I walked into my room where my storage basket was located. After opening the lid on my basket, I realized I had a lot of junk.

After all items were removed, I organized them into groups of souvenirs or gifts from friends.

As I inspected each group, I would then separate them into two categories, "to keep and to sell."

I would ask myself why I saved these and what was their value?

My first group was from my Christmas vacation at Disneyland in California where I purchased Disney clothes and other mementos of Disney characters.

But what I remember most was that my best friends sent me gift cards to have a great shopping experience.

My decision? Keep!

When I look at these things
I will be reminded of my special friends.

My favorite time at Disneyland was spending time in Pixie Hollow making friends with Tinker Bell.

She introduced me to her fairy friends who made me feel at home and later Tinker Bell showed me the inside of her home and all the things she invented.

My decision? Keep!

How could I let go of those memories, especially after
I gave my heart to Tinker Bell.

I really had a special experience when I went to Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. I was invited to join the minions, who are the stars in the "Despicable Me" movies, to be part of their jokes played on visitors of the park.

My decision? Keep!

How could I give up any reminders of the tricks they taught me and how to look innocent if I get caught?

Speaking of trouble makers; next was my collection of the Taco Bell dogs.

We have been together a long time.

Decision? Keep!

The dogs always make me laugh.

Next was my Harry Potter collection. When I wear his hat or hold his wand I can make believe I'm part of the magic.

Using his books as reference allows me to go within his adventures.

Decision? Keep!

Why would I give up this magic?

I'm now looking at my favorite characters from "Star Wars".

I feel like Yoda when I wear his hat - "May the force be with you."

Decision? Keep!

This group falls into my classic collection.

My next item was "ET".

I remember being in the park in Orlando where I shared his basket for the ride across the sky.

Decision? Keep!

I'll always have the memory of him asking me to "phone home".

I even checked my banner with buttons of places I have been, which you can see are more than I can keep on my vest.

Decision? Keep!

Way too many memories to give up.

After all this, I realized that my "sell" section was empty.

Was this because I wanted to hold on to these special moments in my life?

The ones that make my heart happy!

Yes, this trunk holds my junk but this junk represents my life's journey and experiences and that makes my junk priceless.

Each item I touch takes me back to remembering that event, and brings a smile to my heart.

Do I want the cash in exchange for the memories my junk provides to me?

The answer is easy - No!

My junk is now back in the storage basket and is now considered my prized possessions.

Lesson learned - Cherish your memories.

They are priceless!
