As children walk the sidewalks, trying to make games of the most mundane things, a familiar saying, "Step on a crack; break your mother's back," has been chimed out.
As we found out, children have carefully maneuvered the cracks in sidewalks in earlier times only it wasn't a mother's back that one would be weary of; it was BEARS!
In When We Were Very Young, by A. A. Milne, we find a poem of Lines and Squares where children tread carefully, making sure not to alert the bears lurking around.
We hope you enjoy the mischief and childhood fun of this story. And remember to mind your squares! |
